Tea Strainers & Infusers
The bit that catches the leaves.
A good strainer or infuser turns any mug into a proper loose-leaf brewing vessel — no teabags, no compromise. Our ceramic teapot sets include in-lid metal strainers, and our borosilicate glass teapots come with removable stainless steel micro-mesh filters built in.

How to choose a tea strainer
A strainer is the cheapest way into loose leaf. You don’t need a dedicated teapot to start — a strainer over a mug will brew a better cup than any teabag, because the leaves are whole and have room to open.
Strainer or infuser?
The two words get used interchangeably, but they work differently. An infuser holds the leaves and sits in the water while the tea brews, then lifts out. A strainer holds nothing — you brew loose in the pot or mug and pour through it, catching the leaves on the way out.
Infusers are tidier. Strainers give a better brew, because nothing constrains the leaves while they steep. If you are choosing one to start with, choose based on how much washing up you are willing to do.
Mesh is the thing to check
Fine mesh catches rooibos, broken black tea and anything with small botanical pieces. Coarse mesh lets that dust straight through and you end up drinking sediment. If you drink mostly large-leaf white or oolong, coarse is fine and pours faster. If you drink rooibos or a spiced blend with cut bark and seed, you want fine.
Size it to the vessel
A strainer needs to sit stably on the rim of whatever you are pouring into. Check the diameter against your usual mug before buying — one that only just balances will tip, and it always tips when full.
Looking after it
Rinse immediately. Tea tannin stains mesh brown and dries onto it like varnish; thirty seconds under a hot tap straight after pouring saves scrubbing later.
In the meantime
We are adding to this range. Until it lands, our infuser teapots all come with a built-in basket that does the same job, and the crystal infuser bottles brew loose leaf directly for drinking at a desk. Browse the loose leaf blends to work out what you want to brew first.
