Sage Teapot Set

At 200ml the pot holds a little under one large mug, and the two 50ml cups are small by design — this is the East Asian proportion, where the point is several short, hot servings rather than one long cup that goes cold. If you want a pot to pour for a table, this is not it; if you want something for a considered ten minutes on your own, the size is deliberate.

Ceramic holds heat well and hides the colour of the brew, so work to a timer rather than by eye. Warm the pot with a splash of hot water first and tip it out — a cold pot pulls several degrees off the water the moment you pour, which matters most with green tea.

Small pots suit whole-leaf teas that unfurl slowly. Green, white and oolong all work well; a fine-cut herbal blend may drift through a wide spout.

Hand wash only. Avoid thermal shock — do not fill a cold pot straight from a boiling kettle. Not suitable for the dishwasher or microwave.
