About this tea
What it tastes like
Softer than the ingredient list suggests. Chamomile leads — apple-ish and gently sweet — with the lavender sitting just behind it. Lapacho gives the base a woody depth that stops the whole thing from tasting like a floral tisane, and the lemon balm lifts the finish.
Brewing
- One heaped teaspoon per cup, water at a full boil.
- Steep 5–7 minutes. Herbal blends are hard to over-brew and easy to under-brew; a three-minute steep is why night-time teas sometimes taste of hot water.
- Cover the cup while it steeps if you can. Much of what you want here is volatile and otherwise leaves with the steam.
When to drink it
About an hour before bed. Later than that and you trade the wind-down for a trip to the bathroom at three in the morning.
Please note
This blend contains St. John’s wort, which is known to interact with a number of prescription medicines, including hormonal contraceptives, anticoagulants and antidepressants. If you take regular medication, check with your pharmacist or GP before drinking it.
